     The Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Brigade (H.G.V.F.B.) was first organized in 1830. It is the oldest volunteer fire brigade in Newfoundland. The Brigade currently has 38 members that are on a volunteer status twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The brigade is governed by an Executive consisting of: Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, 6 Crew Chiefs, Secretary, Treasurer and the Manager of the Hydrant Club.

      The brigade protects the people of Harbour Grace as well as their property. The Town of Harbour Grace has a population of about 4,000 people. Harbour Grace is located about 100 km from St. John's, the capital city of Newfoundland, Canada.


       In the event of an alarm the officers and members of the brigade shall follow the "Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), set down by the executive of the brigade.

       In the absence of the Chief and Assistant Chief, the first Crew Chief to arrive at the Fire Hall shall be in charge of the operation until such time as the Chief or Assistant Chief arrives.

Practice, meetings and duty assignments will be held Tuesday of each week from September to June (excluding December) inclusive at 7:00 PM. Additional practices, etc. to be held at the discretion of the Chief.

New members of the brigade must serve a probation period of six consistent months. During this period they will not be allowed to vote on any Brigade matter, not eligible to run or hold any office within the Brigade, cannot represent the Brigade at outside functions or training purposes without the consent of the executive, probation members have full firefighting privileges under the supervision of the officer in charge.
